A Music Industry S.O.S.
by: Nuwri Ghostleaf
Can you hear the cry’s for help? The Sky is Falling the Sky is Falling, in this case, The Industry is crumbling and I mean it this time. A Music Industry S.O.S. The call is loud and clear,You see it everyday in many articles concerning the health of a dying record industry. Superstars are taking drastic measures waiting or major labels and congress to act on the problems that are seriously crippling a once thriving $32 Billion dollar industry down to 1/2 of that.
Before I begin let me make this perfectly clear. I write strictly from the heart and the majority of the time straight to the point, depending on the subject matter. I’m not trying to win a literary prize for I know those awards mainly go to writers who’s ambitions are New York Times Washington Post Wall Street Journal kind of honors.
With all due respect to ALL eyes that see read and hear this, no disrespect to your intelligence, I just want to have Written Verbal Conversations with you as the friend I see you as.Sincerely: Nuwri Ghostleaf
With all the talk and publicity surrounding no artist has gone platinum is truly alarming seeing that no less than a year ago if that, there were artists doing that on practically a weekly basis, what do we see as the cause of such a down turn. Could be downloading perhaps? or maybe streaming. whatever it is that has changed the buying habits of music lovers, a serious reevaluation is needed and needed in a hurry.
Taylor Swift to the rescue so says the industry hopefuls. Now I believe in her and love her music, but she can’t do alone. The artist we seen in or lifetime do that was the R.I.P. Michael Jackson, He literally put the industry on his back and renewed a confidence back into the people, those that buy music, good music. But this is going to take a field of dreams moment by more than one artists.
Taylor will and probably has by the fabricated numbers calculated by the Ozzer’s behind the curtain, just to make it seem what it actually isn’t sadly, but to give the illusion that things are getting better at this point is better than nothing in their eyes.
“1989” is not a “Thriller” album, but it does have a millennial mix of ok this might work grooves. We have to realize that the market and it’s buyers are a much more tech savvy generation with accessibility like never before in human history, all this makes a very big difference.
Social Media plays a gigantic role in all aspects of he entertainment fields and many others from sports to politics. People’s engagement is the key. What used to take weeks to like (no pun intended FB) get’s to us in the blink of a Tweet. Things are happening in real time now so goes the world and the music record industry.
My dear musical friend The “Silver Conductor” in his hit song “Change Up” hits the nail right on the head. Facebook Twitter Youtube Google Pinterest Vines Linkedin Myspace and all the others online platforms are crucial to an artists success today more now than ever.
Streaming illegal downloading Piracy and many other contributing factors to this rapid decline in music sales can be traced back to the beginnings of when regulations where not in place to protect the rights of the music content writers musicians songwriters and publishers. The DMCA president Clinton signed while in office, is that even being followed? Is it active or just overlooked?.
The fallout behind Napster now Spodify and others, is not the company it self, it’s the revenue share that’s unfair. The small percentage paid in royalty rights is pitons in comparison to what they the streamers are collecting. Yes they are providing the service now as the easy access distribution systems, but those in the know know that to provide the simple mp3’s is NOTHING but a pay and buy push of a button. While obscene revenue amounts are being collected by them simply by the push of another button.
The distress call of A Music Industry S.O.S. is very real as a must find solution is eminent.
The artists that are going to make the difference hopefully, no one really knows as much as the so called Experts (look the real definition up on that one) claim they know. Artists like:

These are 2 front runners who could possibly do it but it will still in my humble opinion take more than just them to revitalize the want of the buying public. People are under the false illusion that a new crop of fans emerge with new artists as they release their music. When say Jay z. or Eminem aw just pick any artist or genre Rock Soul Country Jazz Classical Soul R&B name it, It’s still the same fans on most parts, just a new release of content music for them to enjoy or not.
So to win them over as fan or buyer, they have to love the product but sadly the media and critics who are called HATERS today, don’t give it a true chance to make in the game as we used to know it. The Game has Changed.
Why the mindset change is dumb founding many about what’s happening, but is recognizable if you open your eyes to see that it’s right there in plain sight. What is the answer you might be saying to the wizards behind the curtain, well should I answer that for you or make you wait?
The answer is worth how much? my point being, and end all records sales drought of this magnitude is huge, so I’m going to negotiate with the powers that be and see if we can’t fix this mindset problem (hint hint) with our fast becoming mistrust problem that “WE THE PEOPLE” have in the Illuminati ran music industry.
As my dear musician friend The “Silver Conductor” says in his hit song “Change Up” it’s some lyrical advice we ALL should adhere to in this day and age of the 5 W’s and an H. (who what when where Why and How)’
